The ATEX Directive describes which type of equipment and environment is allowed in order to work in an explosive atmosphere.
What is an Explosive Atmosphere?
An explosive atmosphere is one where there is a mixture of flammable substances in the form of gases, vapors or dusts in the air. In these conditions, when ignition of these substances takes place, it would cause the total propagation of combustion throughout the environment affected by the mixture.
EX zones are defined by the presence of gas, mist or vapor as follows:
- Zone 0: A location where an explosive atmosphere of gas, vapor or mist is present continuously or for extended periods of time.
- Zone 1: A location where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation.
- Zone 2: A location where an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation, and if it does occur, it is likely to occur only infrequently and for short periods of time.
IRONTECH has designed a family of ATEX Full IP65 316L Stainless Steel and Wall-Mount ATEX Panel PCs for Zone 2 (ATEX), which is currently in the certification process.
